Enchanting People of New Mexico - Tony Snell, Jr.
Feb 28, 2024
Michael Swickard, Ph.D.

Literally thousands of people in New Mexico saw him play basketball for the University of New Mexico Lobos myself included. There was something that he didn’t know at the time nor did any of us. As Paul Harvey had a Rest of the Story series years ago and I’ll tell you the rest of the story before I am done talking about Tony Snell, Jr. We who follow New Mexico sports for the Lobos and the Aggies first started hearing of Tony Snell when he signed a letter of intent to play for the Lobos in November of 2009. I remember hearing on the sports channel one of the reporters calling Snell a diamond in the rough. At the time the UNM Lobos were in a rebuilding year in 2010 with only one returning senior and a transfer. But four freshmen were carrying much of the load. They had a good year and won once in the NIT finishing 22 and 13.
